Day 7: Wakura to Shirakawa

Today we cycled to Shirakawa followed by a short bus ride to Shirakawago in the Japanese Alps.  It was a great day on several fronts.  First, we were able to cycle with no rain and second we are now entering the Japanese Alps.  The Noto Peninsula had stunning ocean vistas and the Japanese Alps are equally beautiful.  Enjoy the sights of day 7 on the Samurai Epic.

Shirakawago river and mountain setting in the Japanese Alps.

Today I cycled about a third of the route with the Ride & Seek tour leader Ben Weigl.  Ben rides with the group each day.

A day doesn't go by without mention of Japanese cuisine.  The morning started with breakfast.

Followed by dinner.  It doesn't get much better than this!

Super Typhoon Hagibis is lurking in the distance, but today was a pleasant ride.  It appears typoon Hegibis will make landfall Saturday and we may be grounded one, possibly two days.   The Alps was one of the areas I was really looking forward to cycling, but we have to deal with mother nature and make the best of it.  The good news is we are staying at excellent accommodations and will be safe.

On a lighter note, today we came across this road sign while cycling.  A typhoon is one thing, but it appears we have to beware of the bear as well  🐻
