Day 14: Iya Gorge to Sameura

The day started with breakfast on the 7th floor of the hotel overlooking the lya gorge.  Breakfast was followed by a 18 mile climb with many switchbacks and narrow mountain roads.  Key highlights from today were climbing out of the lya gorge, spectacular scenery. vine bridges and arriving at the new Sameuraso Hotel overlooking a lake.

After the 18 mile climb here was the view at our first SAG stop.

A small village along the river as we were cycling towards Sameura.

Accomodations at the Sameuraso Hotel for the evening overlooking a lake.  This is a new hotel and very nice.

Tommorow will be the most challenging day of the trip when we cross Mt Ishizuchi, which is Western Japan’s highest peak at 1,982m (6,503ft).
