Day 10: Gujo to Gifu

Today was a short ride with light rain on and off.  We did encounter modest traffic cycling into Gifu with a population of 410,000 residents.  The highlight today was spending time with a group of senior citizens walking along the Nagara River near end of the route.

I cycled past a group of senior citizens dressed in red with walking sticks in Gifu.  I stopped to say hi and much like school children earlier in the week, these seniors were very friendly and curious. On a related note, every person I have interacted with to date in Japan has been courteous, respectful and helpful.

We had light rain on and off today.  It was still pretty with clouds rolling through the mountains.

Another road less traveled today.  I like these single track roads that meander through the woods.

We followed the Nagara River for much of the route today.  We saw numerous people fishing and rafting.

Our home for the evening - Hotel Juhachiro.

Tomorrow morning we take a train to Kyoto.  We are off two days in Kyoto before embarking on stage 2 and cycling Shikoku Island.

Comments

when you write "single track road" is this a road for cars or is this a bike path.

Mike, the single tracks are often roads, but seldom used by cars. If you see a car, they drive slowly. These tend to be scenic and and from my perspective are safer and more enjoyable to ride on vs. bike paths in the states.

I see you had some thumbs up in the one picture... a familiar pose for a certain Coaster.
