Day 9: Takayama to Gujo

Typhoon Hagibis is gone.  Hagibis means speed and fortunately this was a fast moving storm.  The sun was out today and I experienced an incredible ride in the Japanese Alps.  It started with a 19 mile climb followed by a 28 mile descent.  Way cool!!  Enjoy the sights and a short Relive video of day 9 on the Samurai Epic.

The Japanese Alps are beautiful.  I couldn't think of a better way to take in the natural beauty than on a bike.

Short Relive video of my ride.  This SW application is pretty cool.  Enjoy.

Stunning view from one of the bridges I crossed on the route.

Meet Ikki & Remi.  These two individuals provide SAG support, transport our luggage and help us immensely with language translation.  Great guys!!

Cycling the road less traveled!

Went off the beaten path for lunch and had  curry with a Japanese twist.  It was unique and very good.  Pictured here are the two waitresses and two chefs.

While we are on food, I have noticed Japanese mountain cuisine has less fish and more nuts, greens and fruit.

Transportation - Specialized Roubaix Pro.

Gujo Hachiman Castle near our accommodations for the evening.

View of Gujo from the Castle.

Home for the evening at Hotel Sekisuien in Gujo.   Very nice!

Dinner with the group.

You look like the youngest in the group?

Great group Henry. Ben and Brad are younger. After our layover day in Kyoto four of the riders will depart. We have four new riders joining us for the 2nd stage on Shikoku island. Stay tuned.

I was trying to remember if you posted photos of the whole group before because I was wondering if there were any women riding. My hats off to them for having the strength for the climbs!

We are doing a group photo this morning. In a few days we start the 2nd stage cycling Shikoku island and three additional women will be joining the group. You could do this ride Cathy. Most days we have options for short and long routes.
